So the very first important thing that you should know is that all Eucalyptuses are NOT the same and are NOT like the "Halls" medicinal eucalyptus aroma or properties. There are over 700 Eucalyptus species!
This particular Eucalyptus species is not an oil high in 1,8 cineole but on aldehydes. (See chemistry section for more on this) .
This particular oil has a soft lemony aroma, much sweeter than lemongrass. The predominant therapeutic qualties for this oil are:
- Antiviral/Anti infectious
- Antiseptc
- Antiinflammatory
- Sedative for CNS
- Anti spasmodic
- Calming
We have used this in many many pain blends for its ability to ease aches and pains and assist with muscular toning, so this is great in a sports rub after exercise. E. staigeriana is safe for children (over 5) to use in respiratory formulations. The thing that is great about this particular eucalyptus is that is smells light and sunny and kids love it. This makes it very easy to diffuse for the antiviral properties. The act of diffusing this oil, you are able to kill airborne bacteria and stop the spread of germs.
The thing that we really love about this oil is that it blends well with so many other oils that it is a great "bridge"oil.

We find this oil to be extremely uplifting and calming at the same time. Oils that are high in Citral (an aldehyde) are cooling to our system and psyche. So this is an oil that we turn to frequently when working with people with bi polar disorders, and issues of the emotional nature. Wonderful to assist with sgress, psycic overload
It is great to uplift and refresh not only ones mood, but immediate surroundings. The oil also assists in one feeling safe and a sense of protection and ease. The bright yellow essence of this oil make it a balancing oil for the third chakra.

So here we go. This particular speices is an essential oil that is very high in aldehydes. Most Eucalyptuses are high in oxides and the component 1,8 cineole. That is where the "Vicks vapor rub" aroma comes from in E. globuous, E. masala, E. radiata etc.
In Eucalyptus staigerieana, the high amount of aldeydes give it the lemony smell. There are two types of aldehuydes, but all you need to know is that the lemony ones are call aliphatic aldehydes.
The chemical family aldehydes are extremely anti viral and anti infectious in general. They can be mucous membrane irritants, so it is important to dilute them well when blending. It is a good idea to blend an oil high in limonene when using aldehydes because the limonene has a quenching effect, which means it reduces the irritation possibility of the aldehyde, but not the therapeutic property.

This essential oil is quite high in the component citral and that component is known to be a mucous membrane irritant. Best to dilute this quite well in any topical blend
Please store in a refrigerator for the longest possible shelf life, as aldehydes may be prone to oxidation, if not stored correctly.
