What Stillpoint "Nose"
Helichrysum splendidum is quite different than other Helichrysums in aroma, therapeutics & energetics. This helichrysum has a significant percentage of b-phellandrene, which is known for its anti inflammatory & anti fungal properties. Helichrysum splendidum has been shown to be anti-rheumatic, so it would make a great addition to a blend for Rheumatoid Arthritis, helping with joint & soft tissue pain and inflammation. Being high in delta cadinene, it would be beneficial in respiratory blends, especially with Helichrysum gymnocephalum.
Traditional Use of Helichrysum splendidum
There are over 600 species of Helichrysum worldwide, 245 of those are found in southern Africa. The word Helichrysum is from the Greek "Helios" or "sun" and "Chrysos" or "Gold", referring to the color of the flowers. Helichrysums are popular as traditional medicine of South Africa. The African common name sewejaartjie is given to most helichrysums with everlasting flowers and is derived from the belief that the flower heads last for seven (sewe) years (jaar) in the house. The Zulu use the leaf of helichrysum splendid so that a woman finds a man irresistible.
