Foraha (Tamanu) Organic Oil

Calophyllum inophyllum

Foraha (Tamanu) oil has a rich, deep scent with a bold dark color. This oil can be used directly on the skin or diluted with a carrier oil.  Though this oil is thick and rich, once it is applied to skin it is readily and completely absorbed, leaving no oily residue.  According to Dr Kurt Schaubelt, applied topically it stimulates phagocytosis and is indispensable in recipes for viral and bacterial skin diseases, including shingles. It also helps to cleanse metabolic debris after illness.

Benefits of Foraha/Tamanu Oil:
  • Promotes the formation of new tissue
  • Wound healing and  assists the growth of healthy skin
  • Can be applied liberally to cuts, scrapes, burns, insect bites and stings and  abrasions
  • Effective against acne and acne scars
  • Almost magical for scars and stretch marks
  • Great germicide as it is anti-bacterial and anti fungal
  • Helpful with psoriasis, diabetic sores and anal fissures
  • Relieves sunburn, dry or scaly skin, blisters and eczema
  • Effective against herpes sores and shingles
  • Relieves neuralgia, rheumatism and sciatica
  • Effective against skin ulcers
  • Promotes healthy, clear, blemish-free skin
  • Relieves a sore throat when it is applied to the neck
  • Prevents diaper rash and skin eruptions on babies
Calophyllum inophyllum is indigenous to Southeast Asia, but is profuse in Polynesia. The tree grows up to 25 or even 30 meters in height, with long, spreading limbs and blooms twice a year. The trunk of this tree is  thick with dark, cracked bark, and the branches are covered with shiny, dark green oval leaves, and small white flowers with yellow centers. The flowers have a lovely sweet scent.  The fruit of the tree, about the size of an apricot, has a thin flesh and a large nut hull inside.

How Foraha/Tamanu Oil is Extracted:

  • The fruits of the tree are collected and cracked open, however, the blond nut kernel inside contains no apparent oil
  • The kernel then dries on a rack for a month
  • It turns a deep, chocolate brown, and becomes sticky with a rich, pleasant-smelling oil
  • The oil is then squeezed from the dark kernels, using a simple screw press
  • The resulting oil of tamanu is dark green or caramel colored beautiful oil and luxurious
